North Island Part II

From Wellington back to Auckland along the West coast.

WHAT WE DID

Wellington

A quick stop off after getting off the ferry. Make sure you check out the Mount Victoria Lookout for great views of the city and the Weta Caves for the Lord of the Rings fans.

Waverly Beach

Our favourite freedom camping spot on the cliffs overlooking the black beach and caves below.

Mt Taranaki

Great for hiking and there’s some stunning free camping spots right on the mountain. Our tip: Invest a few days and go for one of the hikes around the mountain.

Hobbiton

The classic – a MUST for all Lord of the Rings and Hobbit fans.

WHAT WE LIKED MOST

All of it!

The west coast of the North Island was truly spectacular. We could drive for hours without seeing other cars, absolutely stunning coast lines and green rolling hills inland. We unfortunately initially when planning this trip only saw this as a quick journey back up to the airport and didn’t plan enough time as we should. This area caught us off guard and became our favourite part of the trip! We just wish we had spent more time exploring the area.

WHAT WE DIDN'T LIKE

Nothing!

As mentioned above these last few days really were the highlight of our trip and an absolute must if visiting New Zealand and unsure where to go.
